Our guidance for Internet use

1. Purpose
1.1 Guidelines regulate the use of your own computer at
Telemark University College (HiT) network via a constant connection
from one of the HiT facilities to the campus apartments.
1.2 The Internet is provided to the students for educations purposes.

2. Who can get a connection?
2.1 Only students at HiT are allowed to use the net.

3. IP-numbers and equipment
3.1 HiT uses DHCP for distribution of IP-numbers.
It is not allowed to use any other IP-number.
3.2 It is not allowed to connect hubs.
3.3 Do not use other than certified network cables.
(only TP-cable.should be used, do not use
telephone/ISDN- cable or home-made cables).

4. Responsebility
4.1 You have to share the bandwith. The net is for everyone, not just for you.
4.2 It is not allowed for people outside the student network to use your computer.
4.3 It is not allowed to use the network computers for defamation, insults, dealing pornography or in one or another way participate in acts that contary to the norwegian law.
4.4 All students are obliged to install antivirus program on their computer, and update it frequently.

5. Sanctions
5.1 Violating the rules may result in closure of access and suspencion
from SiTels computer network for up to 6 months.
5.2 Repetition of violating the rules will result in permanent closure.
5.3 Serious violations may result in permanent closure of access and
suspencion from the net already by first time violation of the rules.
5.4 In serious cases the administrator can if neccesary close down the entire computer network for a period or permanently.

6. Upgrade/Improvements
6.1 SiTel reserve the right to close the computer network in periods for upgrade or improvements.
