Information

Rauland is a small village in Vinje county, situated about 800 metres above sea level in the outskirts of Hardangervidda. The village is well known for its rich cultural life and numerous of famous artists, e.g. authors Asmund Olavsson Vinje 1818 – 1870) and Tarjei Vesaas (1897 – 1970), lyric poets Aslaug Vaa (1889 – 1965) and Haldis Moren Vesaas (1907 – 1995), sculptor Dyre Vaa (1903 – 1980) and musician Odd Nordstoga who is famous for mixing popular- and folk music.
Hardangervidda is the largest high mountain plateau in Europe and also the biggest national park in Norway with a lot of tourist cottages and marked trails. In Rauland and the surrounding areas you can find a total of 6 museums with a variety of exhibitions. There are also a number of craft- and art exhibitions. Telemarks Tunet nearby TUC serves local food in traditional surroundings in the summer. Every year 30 000 people climbs Gaustadtoppen, situated 1883 metres above sea level. The view is amazing.
Rauland has a small intimate student environment because of the low number of students.
You can choose to study folk music, traditional design and craft, in different varieties.
Students participate in different festivals and seminars both home and abroad.
SiTel has 20 rooms at the student house in Rauland, all with own showers.
There is a cafe at school and the students have weekly arrangements, often with concerts.
You can also participate in: film club, gym group, choir, dance ensemble and band, to name a few. The student environment in Rauland is unique.
